The present application discloses a polar code encoding method and decoding method and apparatuses, which attempt to apply a polar code to source coding and decoding so as to improve the performance of source coding and decoding. The polar code encoding method may be implemented by means of the following steps: obtaining source bits to be encoded; performing first polar encoding on the source bits to be encoded to obtain encoded source bits, wherein the first polar encoding comprises a first transform and a second transform, the first transform is polarization transform, a mother code length corresponding to the first transform is Ns, the source bits to be encoded are subject to the polarization transform to then obtain first source bits, and the first source bits are subject to the second transform to then obtain the encoded source bits; determining auxiliary information according to the first source bits; and outputting a source encoded code word, wherein the source encoded code word comprises the encoded source bits and the auxiliary information. Adding information based on original source bits to a source encoding result can help with source decoding, thereby improving the performance of a source polar code.
