Abstract:
A polarization conversion element equipped with multiple wavelength plates, and with a rotation mechanism that rotates each wavelength plate around a light axis, independently from the other wavelength plates. The wavelength plates are configured with a substrate which is manufactured from a material that does not have optical rotation but does have birefringence, or are configured with a substrate which is manufactured from a material that does not have optical rotation and does not have birefringence, but is translucent, and the surface of which has been provided with a polarization-dependent phase delay functionality.
