Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a polarization element, a polarization plate, and a liquid crystal display device that are highly durable while having high transmittance and high contrast. This polarization element comprises a base material containing iodine, an azo compound represented by formula (1), or a salt thereof.
Formula (1) (In the formula: Ag1 is a phenyl group having a substituent or a naphthyl group having a substituent; Bg and Cg are, each independently, represented by formula (2) or formula (3), at least one of Bg and Cg being represented by formula (2); Xg1 is an amino group that may have a substituent, a phenylamino group that may have a substituent, or a benzoylamino group that may have a substituent.)
Formula (2) (In the formula: Rg1 is a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group, a lower alkoxy group, or a lower alkoxy group having a sulfo group; k is an integer of 0 to 2.)
Formula (3) (In the formula: Rg2 and Rg3 are, each independently, a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group, a lower alkoxy group, or a lower alkoxy group having a sulfo group.)
