Abstract:
[Problem] The present invention addresses the problem of providing a water-soluble polymer that has a high molecular weight and high polarity, while also exhibiting low viscosity as an aqueous solution. [Solution] Poly-N-vinylcarboxylic acid amide which is a polymer of N-vinylcarboxylic acid amide and which is characterized by: at least one molecular terminal of the polymer being a hydrophobic group; having a weight-average molecular weight Mw of not less than 300,000; and having a viscosity of not more than 500 mPa as a 10 mass% aqueous solution.
