Abstract:
A polymer having a terminal modified with a borinic acid group, which has a borinic acid group at least at a terminal of the molecule thereof and is composed of a polymer of a styrene monomer and/or a polymer of a diene monomer. The polymer having a terminal modified with a borinic acid group is produced by subjecting a styrene monomer and/or a diene monomer to a polymerization reaction in the presence of an anionic polymerization initiator and then adding a cyclic boronic acid anhydride to the reaction solution to terminate the polymerization reaction. The polymer having a terminal modified with a borinic acid group thus produced can be added to a rubber composition for silica-containing automotive pneumatic tires as a component of the rubber composition to improve the dispersibility of silica contained in the rubber composition, whereby both the reduction in rolling resistance and the safety on a wet road surface, both of which are properties inherent in silica, can be achieved satisfactorily.
