Abstract:
Provided are: a production method for a positive electrode active material whereby a lithium ion secondary battery having high discharge capacity and high initial efficiency can be obtained; a positive electrode active material; a positive electrode for lithium ion secondary batteries; and a lithium ion secondary battery. The production method for the positive electrode active material has: a mixing step in which a lithium compound, an alkali metal compound other than Li, and a transition metal-containing compound including at least Ni and Mn are mixed and a mixture is obtained; a step in which the mixture is fired at a temperature of 900-1,100°C and a first lithium-containing complex oxide including an alkali metal other than Li is obtained; and a step in which the alkali metal other than Li is removed from the first lithium-containing complex oxide and a second lithium-containing complex oxide indicated by the formula is obtained. In the formula, 0 < a < 1 and M is an element including at least Ni and Mn. aLi (Li1/3Mn2/3)O2· (1-a) LiMO2
