Abstract:
A preceding vehicle detection device, which is highly reliable and is capable of coping with various environments, is provided. The preceding vehicle detection device is provided with: an image input unit that captures image data for an image taken from a vehicle in the direction in which the vehicle is traveling; a change region extraction unit that extracts brightness change regions constituted by pixels having a brightness that is greater than or equal to a first threshold value and having a temporal change in brightness that is greater than or equal to a second threshold value, among the pixels constituting the image; and a change timing determination unit that determines the timing at which the brightness change regions were extracted, and extracts a first brightness change region and a second brightness change region, which were simultaneously extracted as brightness change regions.
