Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a probe optical fiber and an optical fiber lateral input/output device that make it possible to achieve highly efficient optical input without measuring input efficiency or aligning a probe. The present invention is a probe optical fiber that: has a tip end that is arranged near a bent part of an optical fiber core that has been arranged at an optical fiber lateral input/output device; and inputs light into/receives output of light from the bent part of the optical fiber core. The probe optical fiber is characterized in that, at the bent part of the optical fiber core, light that is emitted from the tip end has an optical intensity profile in which, relative to the optical intensity at the optical axis center, the decrease in optical intensity at locations that are 20 μm from the optical axis is less than 17.6 dB.
