Abstract:
Disclosed is a probe shape detecting apparatus, which is provided with: a magnetic field detecting section, which detects a magnetic field generated by an electromagnetic coil in a flexible probe; a coordinate calculating section, which calculates the three-dimensional coordinates of the electromagnetic coil, on the basis of the detected magnetic field; a moving speed calculating section, which calculates the moving speed of the electromagnetic coil, on the basis of the calculated three dimensional coordinates; a moving average coordinate calculating section, which calculates the moving average coordinates of the electromagnetic coil; and a coil coordinate setting section, which sets, as the three-dimensional coordinates of the electromagnetic coil, the moving average coordinates or the three-dimensional coordinates calculated by the coordinate calculating section, corresponding to the results of comparison between the calculated moving speeds.
