Abstract:
A process for producing a biphenyltetracarboxylic acid, comprising dimerizing a bromophthalic acid salt in the presence of not only at least one reducing agent selected from the group consisting of sugars and C≥2 aliphatic monoalcohols but also a palladium catalyst. In this process, as side reactions can be suppressed, biphenyltetracarboxylic acids being useful as a main materials of polyimide resin excelling in heat resistance and mechanical properties can be obtained with nonconventional high yield.
