Abstract:
The present invention concerns a process for the production of alginate having a mannuronic acid-content of at least 80 mole%, wherein said alginate is produced by:a adding algae or seaweed to water under stirring, in a ratio of 1:3 to 1:20 respectively, at a pH above about 2.3, while maintaining a temperature above 20 °C for at least 30 minutes, andb separating said alginate from the solid material of the suspension in a by a standard separation method such as filtration, and optionallyc recovering said alginate from the solution.
