Abstract:
Disclosed are: a process for production of 3-amino-2-hydroxyhexanoic acid cyclopropylamide with high efficiency, which is suitable for the production in an industrial scale; an intermediate compound useful for the process; and a process for production of the intermediate compound. 3-Amino-2-hydroxyhexanoic acid cyclopropylamide can be produced by reacting 3-propyloxiranecarboxylic acid cyclopropylamide with a metal azide to yield 3-azide-2-hydroxyhexanoic acid cyclopropylamide and then reducing the product. 3-Propyloxiranecarboxylic acid cyclopropylamide can be produced by reacting 3-propyloxiranecarboxylic acid with cyclopropylamine. An optically active form of 3-amino-2-hydroxyhexanoic acid cyclopropylamide can be produced using, as a starting material, optically active (2S,3R)-3-propyloxiranecarboxylic acid which can be produced by a diastereomer method.
