Disclosed is a projector which is provided with: an input unit (14); a projection lens (5) which projects an image; a lens shifting unit (15), which shifts the projection lens (5) parallel in the direction that orthogonally intersects the optical axis of the projection lens; a light receiving unit (2), which is provided with a light receiving surface that receives signal light for remote operation, said light receiving surface being disposed to face a flat plane that orthogonally intersects the optical axis of the projection lens (5); a movable unit (16), which is provided with a supporting section that rotatably supports the light receiving unit (2), and which has the direction of the light receiving surface adjusted by rotation of the supporting section; and a control unit (8), which shifts the projection lens (5) parallel by a specified shift quantity in the specified shift direction by means of the lens shifting unit (15) when instruction signals that specify the shift direction and the shift quantity of the projection lens (5) are received from the input unit (14), and which rotates the supporting section by means of the movable unit (16) so as to have the light receiving surface face the direction wherein the image is to be projected by the parallel-shifted projection lens (5).
