Abstract:
A protection control apparatus (1) is used in a vehicle, and equipped with a collision object identification unit (14), a threshold determination unit (15), and an operation instruction unit (16). The collision object identification unit identifies the type of the object colliding with the vehicle on the basis of the information acquired by an object recognition unit. The threshold determination unit determines a value to be adopted as an operational threshold on the basis of the identified type of the collision object. The operation instruction unit compares the output value outputted by a collision sensor and the operational threshold for actuating a protection device for protecting the collision object, and brings the protection device into operation if the output value is greater than the operational threshold. The threshold determination unit adopts the threshold for pedestrians as the operational threshold if the collision object is identified as a pedestrian. The threshold determination unit adopts a threshold for cyclists, which is smaller than the threshold for pedestrians, as the operational threshold if the collision object is identified as a bicycle.
