Abstract:
A pull type actuator (10) which is small in size and simple in construction but which is capable of efficiently and uniformly applying a bias magnetic field to a magnetostrictive rod, obtaining a large amount of pull. A pull type actuator (10) is capable of expanding and contracting the super magnetostrictive rod (12) by controlling the strength of a magnetic filed applied by a solenoid coil (14), and a bias magnet therefor is composed of a substantially cylindrical first bias magnet (16) coaxially disposed around the periphery of the super magnetostrictive rod (12), and a second bias magnet (18) disposed in the inner space (16A) of the first bias magnet (16) and magnetized in a direction to pull part of the magnetic field produced by the first bias magnet (16) into the inner space (16A).
