Abstract:
The present invention relates to a pupil recognition apparatus, comprising a pupil extraction unit which: extracts pixels having pixel values that are greater than or equal to a first set value, and pixels having pixel values that are less than or equal to a second set value, which is greater than the first set value, from final eye image data, then selects first preliminary pupil pixels by means of pixels having a pixel value that is the same as the first set value, and thereby determines a first preliminary pupil area in which the first preliminary pupil pixels are included; expands the first preliminary pupil area in the directions of first and second rows and in the directions of first and second columns by means of a first to a fourth reference pixel that are respectively located in the uppermost pixel column, bottommost pixel column, leftmost pixel row, and rightmost pixel row of the first preliminary pupil area, and thereby determines a second preliminary pupil area defined by the first and second rows and the first and second columns; and determines a circular area, the diameter of which is the distance between a center pixel located at the center of the second preliminary pupil area, and one among the first row, the second row, the first column, and the second column of the second preliminary pupil area, and determines, as having final pupil pixels, the second preliminary pupil area that is included in the circular area, and determines the area that includes the final pupil pixels as a final pupil area.
