Abstract:
A push-button mixer tap device comprising co-axial combination knobs with a central main knob (1) and an outer accessory knob (2) which selectively set water temperature and flow rate respectively. These settings may be varied whether the tap device is on or off. There are three independent controlling mechanisms in the device including a water flow control mechanism having a threaded plug (6) operated by rotating outer knob (2), a temperature control mechanism having a threaded plate member (14) operated by rotating central knob (1) and an on-off mechanism having a plug (23) and switch mechanism (20) similar to that in a cassette recorder pause key operated by pushing central knob (1). The tap device may include diverter means (5) to select between bath or shower outlets (26, 27), operated by pulling accessory knob (2) out and rotating it 180 degrees.

Claims:
The claims defining the invention are as follows:
1. A pushbutton mixer tap device comprising coaxial combination knobs having a main knob in the center with a graduated disc thereon regulating the water teπperature and an accessory knob on the outside with a graduated disc thereon controlling the water flow from fullon to shutoff within one turn, while the main knob being adapted as a pushbutton switch to turn on or shut off the water, and the accessory knob being pulled out, turned 180 degree and then pushed back again in order to select an upward water outlet or downward one for a dualpurpose of having a shower or a bath.
2. A pushbutton mixer tap device of claim 1 wherein the working procedure includes three consecutive steps: 1) regulating the water teπperature; 2) controlling the onoff switch; and 3) adjusting the water flow.
3. A pushbutton mixer tap device of claims 1 and 2 wherein the teπperature regulating mechanism includes a disc plate with a semicircular slot thereon which is turned to regulate the water temperature by changing the proportion of the hot and cold water flow.
4. A pushbutton mixer tap device of claims 1 and 2 wherein the teπperature regulating mechanism is made up of a moving ring and a fixed trough with two slots 180 degree apart, which regulates the water teπperature by changing the proportion of the hot and cold water flow with one tum of the main knob.
5. A pushbutton mixer tap device of claims 1 to 4 wherein the water flow control πechanism comprises a semicircular knob pedestal and a semicircular screen on the water division plate, which controls the water flow by changing their position with half a turn of the accessory knob.
6. A pushbutton mixer tap device of claims 1 to 4 wherein the water flow control mechanism comprises a water division plate with a hole in the center and a plug, which controls the water flow by πoving the plug forward or backward with one turn of the accessory knob.
7. A pushbutton mixer tap device of claims 1 to 4 wherein the water flow control πechanism comprises a knob pedestal which can select the upward water outlet or downward one when it is engaged and turned 180 degree by a gear rod; and a plug which can regu late the water flowwhen it is engaged by the gear rod.
8. A pushbutton mixer tap device of claims 1 to 7 wherein a plug is used to tum the tap on or off.
9. A pushbutton mixer tap device of any one of claims 1 to 8 wherein the surface of the plug is made of ceramic.
10. A pushbutton mixer tap device substantially as herein described with reference to the accoπpanying drawings.
Description:
PUSH-BUTTON MIXER TAP

This invention relates to a new push-button mixer tap de/ice.

The conventional taps have some disadvantages, for example, you cannot regulate the water flow and temperature in advance, and you have to adjust them every time when you use a tap.

These problems are overcome by the present invention, which provides a push-button mixer tap device comprising co-axial combination knobs with a main knob in the center and an accessory knob on the outside. Each of them has a graduated disc thereon, by which you can regulate the water flow and tetrperature in advance or at any time. The main knob can also be adapted as a push-button switch. Once the water flow and temperature control knobs have been set, all you have to do is to push the button to turn on or shut off the water. Obviously, this new push-button mixer tap device simplifies greatly the working procedure of a tap.

To assist with understanding the invention, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawings which show three examples of the invention.

Exaπple one:

Referring to FIG. 4 it can be seen that the hot and cold water flows into the divided troughs 14, 15 at the bottom of the mixer tap device from the water inlets 16, 17 respectively, and then only via a semicircular slot 9 in the disc plate 10, the water converges into the section 22. The mixed water, from a hole 6 in the water division plate 7, goes into the section 23, and then through a water outlet 20 there, flows out from the spray head or the tap head in a basin.

Referring to FIG. 5 the working procedure of this push-button mixer tap device includes three consecutive steps: regulating the water temperature; controlling the on-off switch; and adjusting the water flow. From this drawing it can be seen that the on-off switch mechanism 12 is asseπbled at the bottom of the outer casing 13, which connects with the disc plate 10 with a semicircular slot 9 thereon, the plug 8 and the main knob 1 by a connecting rod 11. When you turn the main knob 1, the disc plate 10 is turned accordingly by the connecting rod 11, which regulates the water teπperature by changing the proportion between the hot and cold water flow ( See FIG. 6 in detail ). When you push the main knob 1, and the connecting rod 11 is pushed forward too, which makes the on-off switch mechanism 12 release, the plug 8 blocks the water flow, that is, shuts off the water. When you push the main knob 1 again, while the connecting rod 11 is pushed forward too, which causes the on-off switch πechanism 12 to be engaged, the plug 8 returns back to the original position which allows the water to flow again ( See FIG. 7 in detail ). The on-off switch πechanism 12 has the sane operating principle as that of the " pause " key in a radio cassette re¬ corder. The water flow control mechanism comprises a water division plate 7 with a hole 6 in the center and a semicircular screen 5 thereon, and a semicircular knob pedestal 4 connecting with the accessory knob 2 throughout the cover 3 ( See FIG.8-9 in detail ). When you turn the accessory knob 2, the knob pedestal 4 will also turn, and the position of the knob pedestal 4 and the semicircular screen 5 on the water division plate 7 is changed, which controls the water to flow from the hole 6 of the water division plat 7 into the water outlet 20 in dotted line which connects with the tap head. The accessory knob 2 can regulate the water flow from full-on to shut-off with only half of one turn. Besides, we can see the two springs 18, 19 and the washer 21 in this drawing.

Example two:

Referring to FIG. 12 it can be seen that the hot and cold water flows into the divi-led troughs 16, 17 at the bottom of the mixer tap device from the two water inlets 21, 22 respectively, and then via the two slots 10, 11 of the two troughs 16, 17, the water converges into the section 34. The mixed water goes into the section 35 from the hole 9 in the center of a water division plate 8, and then through the two water outlets 26, 27 there, the water is spouted out from a spray head or discharged out from a tap head in a bath tub.

Referring to FIG. 13 it can be seen that the on-off switch mechanism 20 is assembled at the bottom of the outer casing 15, which connects with the main knob 1, the temperature control mechanism 14 and the plug 23 by a connecting rod 7. The on-off switch mechanism 20 works in the same way as that works in the exaπple one. The teπperature control mechanism 14 comprises a ring 13 and a disc plate 12 which is screwed on the inner wall of troughs 16, 17 ( See FIG. 14-15 in detail ). When you turn the main knob 1, the teπperature control mechanism 14 is turned accordingly by the connecting rod 7, and the ring 13 moves forward or backward, which regulates the water teπperature by changing the proportion between the hot and cold water flow. The water flow control mschanis com- prises a knob pedestal 5 which can be engaged by a projection 24 or 25, a plug cock 6 screwed on the inner wall of the knob pedestal 5, and a gear rod 3 connecting with the accessory knob 2 throughout the cover 4 ( See FIG. 16-18 in detail ). hen you turn the accessory knob 2, the plug cock 6 is driven along the thread on the inner wall of the knob pedestal 5 by the gear rod 3 to move completely from forward to backward within one turn, which regulates the water to flow out the water outlet 26 or 27 from full-on to shut-off with only one turn too. When you pull out the accessory knob 2, the gear rod 3 releases from the plug cock 6 and clutchs the knob pedestal 5 which releases from the projection 24, and then you can turn the accessory knob 2180 degree and push it back again, which causes the knob pedestal 5 to be engaged on the projection 25 and the πouth of the knob pedestal 5 to be changed from the outlet 26 connecting with the spray head to the outlet 27 connecting with the tap head in a bath tub, in this way, the water can flow out for having a bath instead of a shower, that is, you can use the mixer tap device as a dual-purpose tap. Besides, we can see three springs 18, 19, 33, three fixed screw nuts 30, 31, 32 and two washers 28, 29 in the drawing.

Exaπple three:

Referring to FIG. 19 it can be seen that the hot and cold water flows from the two water inlets 7, 8 into the section 21 of the mixer tap device via the two slots 9, 10 respec¬ tively, where the mixer water converges into the section 22 from the hole 18 in the center of a water division plate 17, and then flows out from the outlet 5 which connect- ing a tap head outside.

Referring to FIG. 20 it can be seen that the on-off switch πechanism 6 is assembled at the bottom of the outer casing 11, which works in the sane way as that works in the exaπple one. The teπperature control πechanism comprises a ring 14 which is screwed on the end of the plug 16. The ring 14 has a slot 15 thereon which is brought into align- πent with one of the two slots 9 or 10 ( See FIG. 21-22 in detail ). When you tum the main knob 1, the plug 16 is turned accordingly by the connecting rod 20, and the ring 14 moves forward or backward, which regulates the water teπperature by changing the pro¬ portion between the hot and cold water flow. The water flow control mechanism comprises a water division plate 17 with a hole 18 in the center, and a plug 4 connecting with the accessory knob 2 by a rod 19 with the thread thereon ( See FIG. 23 in detail ). When you tum the accessory knob 2, the plug 4 is driven to move forward or backward accordingly, which controlsthe water to flow from the hole 18 of the water division plate 17 to the water outlet 5. The accessory knob 2 can regulate the water flow from full-on to shut-off within one turn. Besides, we can see two springs 12, 13 in this drawing.

By the use of a push-button mixer tap device, you can regulate the water flow and tem¬ perature before you push the button, and " pause " the water flow at any tine. Besides, it is safe to operate because a little cold water is always mixed in with the hot water. Therefore it can be widely applied to any kitchen or bathroom.
