Abstract:
A quicksand amount observation system according to the present disclosure is provided with: a metal pipe (10A) laid in a river; an optical fiber cable (20A) that is passed through the metal pipe (10); a communication unit (31A) that transmits an optical pulse to the optical fiber cable (20A) and receives, from the optical fiber cable (20A), back-scattered light generated in association with the optical pulse; a detection unit (32A) that detects, on the basis of a change in characteristics of the back-scattered light received by the communication unit (31A), collision noise generated as a result of collision between the metal pipe (10A) and quicksand; and a quicksand amount calculation unit (41A) that calculates the quicksand amount on the basis of characteristics of the collision noise detected by the detection unit (32A).
