A recording device is provided with a recording medium for recording information, a light source, an optical system, a slider and an optical waveguide. Light from the light source enters the optical system, and the slider shifts from the recording medium in a non-contact status. The optical waveguide is arranged at a position facing the recording medium on the slider so as to irradiate the recording medium with the light entered from the optical system. When the mode field diameter on the light outputting side of the optical path is expressed as d, and the mode field diameter on the light inputting side of the optical waveguide is expressed as D, an inequality of D>d is satisfied by converting the mode field diameter by smoothly changing the optical waveguide diameter.
