BACKGROUND

[0006] There are several solutions available today for ornamenting finger and toenails with faux nails. Most are single use, but there are some that are purporting to offer reusable ornamental faux nails for the fingers and toes. There are none before the present invention that possess the ability to adjust with the rate at which the wearers actual nail grows [0007] Among the prior art there are many permanent solutions to faux, artificial, and/or ornamental nails for the fingers and toes. These solutions are all limited to single use. This is because once an artificial nail is put into place it cannot be reused as the removal process destroys the integrity of the artificial nail making it impossible to reuse as if new.

[0008] Among the prior art there are reusable artificial nails with lots of tiny suction cups on the under side purporting to offer reusable ornamental nails for the fingers and toes. The many tiny suction cups are too small to remain positively adhered and thus fail to be a functional solution. [0009] Among the prior art there are various glue and adhesion systems purporting to offer reusable ornamental nails for the fingers and toes. These solutions all suffer from the use of glue and adhesion materials and/or substances. The nature of glues and adhesion materials includes partially mixing with the things to be glued or adhered together resulting in some destruction of the connecting things thereby preventing these purported reuse methods from being reused as if new.

[0010] In light of the foregoing prior art, there is a need for a reusable faux finger and toe attachment means to better enable actual reusability wherein the faux nail stays in place during use and can be removed and placed on a different finger or toenail in like new condition for reuse again and again. Further there is a need for a faux-fingernail device that has the ability to adjust with the rate at which the wearers actual nail grows.

[0115] The present invention is a system and method of using faux acrylic (or any other material) nails that can be detached and re-worn. The faux nails will need to be slightly thicker than what is currently on the market, in order to accommodate a snap-fit /sliding piece for proper functionality. [0116] There are a few options when it comes to the design and how the pieces will fit together. In the first embodiment, the connector piece is designed to slide from one end of the nail to the other (from tip to cuticle base) in the center and remains positioned in place by connecting a tab into a notch. In the second embodiment, the connector piece is designed to slide from one end of the nail to the other (from tip to cuticle base) in the center. In the third embodiment, the connector piece is designed with a set of pins and holes to position the faux nail. In the fourth embodiment, the connector piece is designed with a threaded connector ring to position the faux nail. In the fifth embodiment, the connector piece is designed with a snap-fit and/or pressure fitted connection to position and hold the faux nail.

[0117] In an effort to keep the connector piece completely hidden, various options for connecting it to the underside of the faux nail exist. The faux nail may be thicker than those available today. Further the connector base profile can be decreased to flatten or minimize the elevation profile. [0118] This invention relates generally to reusable faux nails for fingers or toes in the form of a base connector device that is mateable to a faux finger or toenail having an attachment means wherein the base connector device attachment means is dimensioned to mate precisely with the attachment means of the faux-fingernail.

[0119] Making the device of the present invention match the fingers or toes where reusable ornamental faux nails are desired is a matter of measuring the distances of finger or toenails dimensions and measuring the arc or curvature in the natural shape of the finger or toenail. The attachment bases, and correspondingly the attachment means connected or glued to and / or incorporated into a faux nail, are shaped with a matching curve to set upon a fingernail and generally, specifically, or identically match the measured finger or toenail. [0120] The connecting bases are dimensioned and curved to match in shape and to cover the center portion of a finger or toenail in a generally rectangular shape aligned down the center of a finger or toenail and are up to twenty -five percent of the surface area of a finger or toenail in size depending on where (which finger or toes) the device and method of the present invention will be worn and utilized.

[0121] The connecting elements and the faux nails are dimensioned and curved to match in shape and to cover a finger or toenail in a generally rectangular shape aligned down the center of a finger or toenail and are up to twenty -five percent of the surface area of a finger or toenail in size depending on where (which finger or toes) the device and method of the present invention will be worn and utilized. The shape of the faux nail can be any shape desired. The shape of the faux nail may or may not cover the entire finger or toenail where it is to be worn or used. The shape of the faux nail may or may not extend past the end of the finger or toenail where it is to be worn or used. For example: a pinky finger device according to the present invention is approximately of length 16.5 mm, width 8.8 mm, depth 3.9 mm; a middle finger device according to the invention is of length 20.0 mm, width 11.0 mm, depth 3.9 mm; and a thumb device according to the invention is of length 23.3 mm, width 12.7 mm, and depth 3.9 mm.
