Abstract:
A roll profile for work rolls is provided for both shape control and free ruled rolling. Each of the work rolls is a roll having one tapered end. Providing starting point of the tapered end of the rolls being origin of coordinates, the curve of respective tapered end is a quartic curve represented by a formula as follows, y(x)=a0+a1x+a2x2+a3x3+a4x4, wherein x∈[0,Le], y(x)∈[0,He].Because transition between the tapered portion and the roll body is smooth, asymmetric deformation due to the difference between abrasion of the upper and lower rolls is elimatated, reducing wedged shape of strip, and reducing unstable rolling due to shifting of roll axle caused by asymmetric strip stresses. Futher As the amount of shift of work roll is a axial shift represented by Shift=B/2+Le-Se-Lw/2 so that box shaped abrasion of prior art roll is eliminated, closed type abrasion of prior art roll is changed into open type abrasion, averaging the abrasion of the rolls, eliminating ‘cat ear’ hole, achieving flat roll type rolling, and fulfilling the requirements of free ruled rolling.
