A rope climbing robot capable of obstacle crossing, comprising a robot body. The robot body comprises a housing (1, 4, 7), a driving module (11), and a guiding module; the housing is longitudinally cut into an even number of housing splits, and transversely cut and segmented, according to the mounting positions of the driving module (11) and the guiding module in the housing, into a driving housing segment and a guiding housing segment, correspondingly, there are at least one guiding module and at least one guiding housing segment, and a housing opening mechanism is further mounted in the housing; the housing opening mechanism comprises a first housing opening mechanism for opening/closing the guiding housing segment and a second housing opening/closing mechanism for opening/closing the driving housing segment. The rope climbing robot can move freely and cross a faulty robot which cannot move due to a fault, thereby achieving autonomous arrangement and repair of a wireless sensor monitoring network, and a resident node is set for a detected slight damage and a damaged position for all-weather monitoring. Also disclosed is an obstacle crossing method of a rope climbing robot capable of crossing.
