A rotating electrical machine includes a stator where a stator winding is mounted on a stator core, and a rotor that is rotatably disposed inside the stator. The stator winding includes a plurality of approximately U-shaped segment conductors that are inserted into a slot from one end surface of the stator core, end portions thereof projecting from the other end surface of the stator core, and adjacent end portions of the plurality of segment conductors are welded to each other. The segment conductor includes a non-deformed portion, a plastically deformed portion that is formed at the end portion, and a tapered portion that is formed between the non-deformed portion and the plastically deformed portion. The plastically deformed portion is formed in such a manner that dimensions thereof in a circumferential direction of the stator are larger than dimensions in a circumferential direction of the stator in the non-deformed portion, and dimensions thereof in a radial direction of the stator are smaller than dimensions in a radial direction of the stator in the non-deformed portion. The segment conductors are welded to each other at an apex of the plastically deformed portion.
