The objective of the present invention is to provide a rotating machine system and a method for diagnosing a rotating machine system with which it is possible to detect an abnormality in a power transmission mechanism at low cost and in a short period of time. To this end, in this rotating machine system a rotating machine 4 and a load machine 8 or a power source are connected by way of a power transmission mechanism such as a belt 7. A current measuring unit 101 measures a phase current of at least one phase of the rotating machine 4. A frequency spectrum computing unit 102 computes a frequency spectrum for the phase current measured by the current measuring unit 101. A degradation indicator calculating unit 103 calculates a total value or an average value of an amplitude at frequencies including a power source frequency and excluding a frequency range to be removed, with respect to the frequency spectrum computed by the frequency spectrum computing unit 102, and takes the calculated total value or average value as a degradation indicator. An abnormality degree computing unit 104 computes an abnormality degree on the basis of the degradation indicator obtained by the degradation indicator calculating unit 103.
