The counter (10) has a body whose front panel (15) can be pivoted around a horizontal axle (20). To this end, a lift cover (30) is provided which rests on a stationary support. The lift cover (30) includes an articulation organ (13) resting on the front panel (15) and fixed near the edge of the panel (42) that is disposed in the area of the axle (20). When the front panel (15) is placed in closed position (15.1), said edge (42) is located near the edge (47) of a stationary counter area (45). According to the invention, in order to adapt the movements of the front panel (15) to the corresponding situations, the pivotal axle (20) is divided into two main parallel axles (21, 22). Both main axles (21, 22) are attached on both ends to a height-adjustable connecting arm (25) determining the corresponding height position of the edge of the panel (42) located near the axle. Both main axles (21, 22) are fixed to the articulation member (13) and directly or indirectly to the support. The lift cover (30) also has an angular connecting arm (35), the ends of said arm controlling the angular position of the articulation member (13) and the front panel (15) depending on the corresponding height position of the edge of the panel (42) located near the axle.
