SCREENING METHOD FOR MATERIALS THAT SUPPRESS CHARACTERISTIC BODY ODOR OF ELDERLY PEOPLE

Abstract:
The present invention relates to a screening method for materials that suppress the characteristic body odor of elderly people. The screening method according to the present invention screens for candidate materials that suppress the characteristic body odor of elderly people from among test substances using odorant receptors that are responsive to substances causing the characteristic odor of elderly people. The method comprises: adding test substances and substances causing the characteristic body odor of elderly people to at least one odorant receptor polypeptide selected from the group consisting of (a) OR2C1, OR2J2, OR4E2, and OR5P3 and (b) polypeptides that contain an amino acid sequence that is at least 80% identical to the amino acid sequence of any of the polypeptides in (a) and polypeptides that are responsive to a substance causing the characteristic body odor of elderly people; measuring the response of the odorant receptor polypeptide to the substances causing the characteristic body odor of elderly people; and identifying test substances that suppress the response of the odorant receptor polypeptide on the basis of the response that has been measured. The present invention also relates to a screening method for trans-2-nonenal odor suppressors and trans-2-octenal odor suppressors.
