Abstract:
Provided are: a sensor element which suppresses decrease in the responsiveness of a gas sensor, while improving the detection accuracy of a gas to be detected by means of a catalyst; and a gas sensor. A sensor element 3 which is provided with: an oxygen ion conductive solid electrolyte body 3s; a detection electrode 55 which is provided on one surface of the solid electrolyte body and comes into contact with a gas to be measured; and a reference electrode 51 which is provided on the other surface of the solid electrolyte body and comes into contact with a reference gas. This sensor element 3 is additionally provided with a catalyst layer 60 which comprises: a porous carrier 63 which covers the detection electrode; and one or more catalysts 65 which are supported by the carrier and are selected from the group consisting of Ru, Rh, Pd, Ir and Pt. The carrier is mainly composed of a combined body of ceramic particles 61 and Ti oxide particles 62 that are different from the ceramic particles and have a smaller particle diameter than the ceramic particles.
