Abstract:
The main component of this shaped wood article is cellulose. The shaped wood article has one or both of characteristics (1) a flexural modulus of at least 4000 MPa, and (2) a flexural strength of at least 50 MPa. Wood pellets used as a material for the shaped wood article may comprise cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin. A manufacturing method for the shaped wood article has: a step in which a solution is obtained by dissolving a cellulose-containing starting material in an organic acid; a step in which water or an alkali is added to the solution causing solids to precipitate; a step in which the solids are collected; and a step in which the collected solids are thermoformed. The main component of the solids is cellulose.
