Abstract:
Provided are a SiC ceramic which has superior compactness and superior thermal and mechanical characteristics in room-temperature and high-temperature environments even when fired at a relatively low temperature, and a production method for the SiC ceramic. According to the present invention, SiC fine particles having an average particle size of 300 nm or less are prepared, and, on each of the surfaces thereof, a coating layer of about 1-10 nm is formed by a gas phase method or a liquid phase method. The coating layer may contain Al. A powder comprising the thus-prepared coated SiC fine particles is sintered at a temperature of 1600-1900ºC. This allows production of a SiC sintered body having superior compactness and superior thermal and mechanical characteristics in room-temperature and high-temperature environments.
