Abstract:
Provided are: a sliding component which has a low friction coefficient and can maintain stable sliding characteristics from an initial sliding period; and a manufacturing method which can manufacture the sliding component in a simple manner. A sliding component (1) is provided with an iron-based material (10) in which graphite particles (13) are dispersed in an iron base (11), and a tin film (20) having, as a main material, tin formed on a surface of the iron-based material (10), wherein the graphite particles (13) of the sliding component (1) are exposed from the tin film (20). The manufacturing method thereof includes a preparation step for preparing the iron-based material (10) in which the graphite particles (13) are dispersed in the iron base (11), and a film formation step for forming the tin film (20), which has tin as a main material, on the surface of the iron-based material (10), the tin film (20) being formed in the film formation step such that the graphite particles (13) are exposed from the tin film (20).
