Abstract:
The present invention relates to a sliding type constant velocity universal joint (1, 51) wherein a stationary type constant velocity universal joint section (2, 52) is inserted and fitted in an outer cylinder member (3), the stationary type constant velocity universal joint section (2, 52) being constituted by an outer joint member (6, 56), an inner joint member (7, 57), a plurality of torque transmission balls (8, 58), and a retainer (9, 59) which is disposed between the outer joint member (6, 56) and the inner joint member (7, 57) and which retains the torque transmission balls (8, 58). A ball spline section (4) is formed between the inner peripheral surface (24) of the outer cylinder member (3) and the outer peripheral surface (25, 75) of the outer joint member (6, 56), and the ball spline section (4) is formed such that balls (28) are retained by a ball spline retainer (29) disposed between the inner peripheral surface (24) of the outer cylinder member 3 and the outer peripheral surface (25, 75) of the outer joint member (6, 56). The sliding type constant velocity universal joint (1, 51) is provided with a center alignment mechanism (S) for restricting the amount of axial movement of the ball spline retainer (29) to half the amount (W) of relative axial movement between the outer cylinder member (3) and the stationary type constant velocity universal joint section (2, 52).
