Title:
SODIUM-SULFUR BATTERY
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2020/153125
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of providing a safe sodium-sulfur battery, wherein the contact between molten sodium and molten sulfur is reduced, thereby reducing the amount of heat generated by a reaction and suppressing igniting even if a partition wall is broken. The sodium-sulfur battery has: a bag-shaped first sheet member 8 which is disposed in a negative electrode chamber 40, is formed of a carbon fiber sheet, and has a bottomed upper end opening; and an aggregate 85 composed of alumina particles and disposed in a space surrounded by the first sheet member 8 and the outer circumferential surface of a sodium container 4. Molten sulfur flowing into the negative electrode chamber 40 from a breaking point of a partition wall 3 is blocked by the first sheet member 8 contacting the inner circumferential surface of the partition wall 3 in the negative electrode chamber 40, and reacts only with a slight amount of molten sodium present in the gap between the inner circumferential surface of the partition wall 3 and the first sheet member 8, with a large amount of the reaction being suppressed, so that igniting does not occur.
