Abstract:
To transfer all the charges held in a charge holding region.
In the present invention, a photoelectric conversion unit generates charges in accordance with an exposure quantity in a predetermined exposure period. A generated charge holding unit and an output charge holding unit hold the charges. A generated charge transfer unit performs generated charge transfer for transferring the charges from the photoelectric conversion unit to the generated charge holding unit after the lapse of the exposure period. A holding charge transfer unit performs holding charge transfer for transferring, to the output charge holding unit, the charges held by the generated charge holding unit. A generated charge holding gate unit applies: a control voltage to the generated charge holding unit during periods when the generated charge transfer and the holding charge transfer are performed, said control voltage being a voltage for controlling the potential of the generated charge holding unit; a bias voltage, to the generated charge holding unit during a period different from the periods when the generated charge transfer and the holding charge transfer are performed, said bias voltage being a voltage having a polarity different from that of the control voltage; and a bias voltage after applying, to the generated charge holding unit, a substantially intermediate voltage between the control voltage and the bias voltage when the holding charge transfer period ends.
