Abstract:
Provided are a sound speed calculation system and sound speed calculation method which are capable of accurately calculating sound speed in a region of interest of a test subject. To this end, the focal point (F) of an ultrasonic wave (w) is set in the section of the region of interest (35) that is farthest away in the transmission direction of the ultrasonic wave (w). Ultrasonic transducers (51)-(69) in a second group receive an ultrasonic echo from the focal point (F). The sound speed in the region of interest (35) is calculated by using the ultrasonic echo signals outputted from: a first ultrasonic transducer (60) located nearest the focal point (F); two second ultrasonic transducers (51), (69) that are not the first ultrasonic transducer, are positioned on a straight line (L2) that passes through the focal point (F) and through the region of interest (35) of the test subject, and sandwich the first ultrasonic transducer (60) therebetween; and other ultrasonic transducers (52)-(59), (61)-(68), which are located between the first ultrasonic transducer (60) and the second ultrasonic transducers (51), (69).
