Title:
SPHINGOMYELINASE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2008/136451
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
Disclosed are a novel sphingomyelinase and a method for the production thereof. The sphingomyelinase comprises: (a) a polypeptide comprising the amino acid sequence depicted in SEQ ID NO:2; (b) a polypeptide which comprises an amino acid sequence having the substitution, insertion, deletion and/or addition of one or several amino acid residues in the amino acid sequence depicted in SEQ ID NO:2 and which has the hydrolytic activity; or (c) a polypeptide which comprises an amino acid sequence having an at least 75% homology with the amino acid sequence depicted in SEQ ID NO:2 and which has the hydrolytic activity. The enzyme may have a hydrolytic activity of 50% or more on sphingomyeline (a substrate) at a pH value ranging from pH 8 to 12, wherein the hydrolytic activity of the enzyme on sphingomyeline at pH 10 and 37°C for 10 minutes is defined as 100%.
