Best Mode for Carrying Out the Invention Referring to the enclosed drawings, the preferred embodiment of the present invention will be described in

detail hereinafter.

As shown in Figs. 1 to 4, contrived to use one unit as a stapler and the other, as a punch, the present invention includes a first handle 10 having a supporting portion 12 on one side and a lever 30 and a feeder 28 on the other side ; the second handle 11 having a pushing portion 18 on one side and a base 24 on the other; and a connecting portion 44 for cross-linking the first 10 and the second handles 11 pivoting upon a shaft 33, making the staple used as a punch by turning the second handle 11 over around the shaft 33.

Referring to Figs. 1 and 3, the first handle 10 and the connecting. portion 44 of the second handle 11 are installed crossing to each other. The first handle 10 has a pushing portion 18 formed at one side and a base 24 integrated on the other. On both sides of the connecting portion 44, shaft holes 34,35 and a long vertical hole 46 are formed at the same location corresponding to each other. Here, the vertical hole 46 is formed long lengthway so that fixing shafts 42,43 are inserted and moves up and down. The fixing shafts 42, 43 are inserted to the upper part of the vertical hole 46, and the perpendicular length of the vertical hole 46 is desired to be formed longer than the distance between the two centers of the shaft holes 34,35.

Also, the second handle 11 has supporting portion 12 on one side and a lever 30 integrated on the other side. And at both sides of the connecting portion 44, a shaft hole 56 is formed; at the right side of the shaft hole 56 first fixing hole 48 is formed ; at the upper side of the shaft hole 56 a second fixing hole 50 is formed; at the lower part of the shaft hole 56 formed is a vertical hole 54 wherein the fixing shafts 42,43 are inserted are formed at locations corresponding to each other. Here, the fixing shafts 42,43, which are inserted in the vertical hole 54, moves along the movement of the second handle 11, and being inserted to the first fixing hole 48 it performs the

function of fixation.

Under the lever 30, a bracket 32 is fixed elastically, under which formed is a feeder 28 provided with a pushing plunger 58 and an elastic means 40 for providing staple stored therein. At the right end of the feeder 28, a connecting portion 45 is formed for joining the feeder 28 to the connecting portion 44 at the right end of the lever 30, and the shaft hole 36 and a third fixing hole 60 are formed on both sides of the connecting portion 45 at the same location corresponding to each other. The connecting portion 45 of the feeder 28 is shaped like a circle, part of which is taken out. The fixing shafts 42,43 are inserted in the third fixing hole 60 of the feeder 28 and being held between the vertical hole 54 it performs the function of fixation.

The shaft holes 34,35 of the first and the second handles 10,11 are formed at the same center and the connecting portions 44,45 are connected to each other through a hinge shaft 33, both ends of which are combined to each other by fixing means 38 such as a nut, at the same time, both sides of which get cut out so that they become plane and the plane section of the hinge shaft 33 moves the crossing distance of the shaft holes 34,35.

The fixing shafts 42,43, both end of which is hemispheric, are provided with an elastic means 40 at both sides, and being placed at the connecting portions 44,45, they are inserted in the third fixing hole 60, the vertical hole 46 and the second fixing hole 50 and moves elastically by the elastic means 40.

As shown in Figs. 2 to 4, the first handle 10 of the present invention includes a supporting portion 12 on the other part of one side of the first handle 10 ; a die 14 formed on top of the one side of the first handle 10 ; and a lever 30 is formed on its other end. On the lower part of the lever 30, a bracket 32 bent at right angle is formed,

and one end of a feeder 28, where staple (not shown in the figures) is stored, is combined with the one end of the lever 30 by the hinge shaft 33. The metal staple inserted in the feeder 28 is to be pushed down by the bracket 32.

The second handle 11, moving together with the first handle 10 by the hinge shaft 36 combining the connecting portions 44,45, has a pushing portion 18 on the lower part of one side of the second handle 11. And a punch 20 is molded under the pushing portion 18. So contacting the die 14 of the supporting portion 12, it is formed capable of punching holes on sheets of paper. Here, it is advisable not to get paper slanted while punching by forming the punch 20 to be vertically balanced.

The base 24 is integrated into the other end of the pushing portion 18, and the upper part of the base 24 has a molding portion 26 formed to be contacted with the bracket 32. The staple pushed by the bracket 32 gets into the molding portion 26 and gets bent as soon as it's inserted.

On the connecting portion 44 linking the first handle 10 to the second handle 11, the shaft holes 34,35 are formed on both sides in such a way that its up and down centers are apart at a predetermined distance A with the same vertical center. On the shaft hole 34, the hinge shaft 33 is inserted so the first and second handles 10,11 can be moved together. Here, both ends of the hinge shaft 36 get fixed with a fixing means 38 such as a nut, thus making the linking and separation easy. Preferably, when using nuts with left spiral and right spiral respectively, they can be connected more effectively.

Also, if the predetermined distance A of the shaft holes 34,35 is made bigger than its diameter, thereby providing a short distance of a straight line, it can move because it faces the plane section of the hinge shaft 33.

Here, the horizontal center of the shaft hole 34 is formed to be in the middle of the distance between the punch

20 and the die 14, and the vertical centers of the punch 20 and the die 14 are set to be one so that paper can be perforated without making the paper slanted. Also, the height of the vertical hole 46 should be formed the same as or longer than the predetermined distance A for preventing interference when the hinge shaft 33 moves the predetermined distance A.

On top of the hinge shaft 33, a vertical hole 46 connecting the first and the second handles 10,11 is formed, and the fixing shafts 42,43 with the elastic means 40 at both ends are installed in the vertical hole 46, and the end of the fixing shafts 42,43 is inserted and fixed in the second fixing hole 52 and the vertical hole 46.

With the other end fixed with the hemispheric elastic means 40, the fixing shafts 42,43 are formed to be shrunk in both right and left directions.

When moving the handles 10,11 and thereby moving the hinge shaft 33 from the shaft hole 34 to the shaft hole 35, the fixing shafts 42,43 move to the lower part of the vertical hole 46, because the fixing shafts 42,43 located above the vertical hole 46 is installed to be moved downward along the vertical hole 46.

Here, as the fixing shafts 42,43 held between the vertical hole 54 moves along the lever 30 and the feeder 28, the hinge shaft 33 stays in the middle of the shaft holes 34, 35 so that it cannot be pulled back too much. The fixing shafts 42,43 held in the vertical hole 54 rotate in counter-clockwise and stop when it's inserted in the first fixing hole 48.

As described above, after moving the lever 30 and feeder 28, the feeder 28 should be rotated in counter- clockwise, because staple should be put in the feeder 28.

When turn the feeder 28 around in clock-wise after putting staple in the feeder 28, the fixing shafts 42,43 are pushed and inserted into the vertical hole 54. Then the

lever 30 and the feeder 28 come to be moved together. Then, as shown in Fig. 4, the punch can be used as a stapler when pushing the second handle 11 to return its original position by pushing the handle 11 downward, inserting the hinge shaft 33 to the shaft hole 35 and turning it over in counter- clockwise.

Referring to Fig. 5 of assembled schematic view, the movement of the present invention is described hereinafter.

First, the elastic means 40 at both ends of the fixing shafts 42,43 are installed in the connection portion 45 of the feeder 28, and the connecting portion 45 is combined with the connecting portion 44 of the second handle 11, the center of the shaft hole 36 formed at the right end of the feeder 28 and the shaft holes 34,56 at the first and second handles 10,11 are set the same, and hinge shaft 33 is inserted and fixed with the fixing means 38 such as a nut.

Here, the fixing means 38 can use a nut provided with left and right spirals for fixing more securely than a nut.

When using as a punch, the device of the present invention can perform effectively by installing the elastic means 40 at both ends of the fixing shafts 42,43 in the vertical hole 46 and the second fixing hole 50, also fixing a part of an elastic supporter 52 which is bent in zigzag at the lower part of the feeder 28, that is, base 24, and making the right end of the elastic supporter to elastically prop the feeder 28 coming down.

As shown in Fig. 4, the present invention is used as a punch. Also shown in Fig. 6, it can be converted to a stapler by turning over the second handle 11 in clock-wise, thus rotating the shaft holes 34,35 formed at the connecting portion 44 to be horizontal, putting down the second handle 11 and moving the hinge shaft 33 from the shaft hole 34 to the one 35 along the straight line formed between the two shaft holes 34, 35 and at the same time turning it in opposite direction of clock.

As shown above, the present invention make it used both as a stapler and a punch by connecting the first and the second handles 10,11 with connecting portions 44,45 and moves the handles 10,11 together.

With a stapler and a punch integrated as a body, it's easy to keep, has an economical effect of decreasing office expenses. Also with simple structure, the manufacturing cost can be reduced.

While the present invention has been described with respect to certain preferred embodiments, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that various changes and modifications may be made without departing from the scope of the invention as defined in the following claims.
