Abstract:
A tandem cold rolling mill comprising multiple rolling stands is utilized, opening of a roll gap between upper and lower work rolls in said rolling stands by a preset specific amount is started before the time at which the tail end of a steel strip reaches each of the aforementioned rolling stands, and the aforementioned opening is ended at or before the time at which the aforementioned tail end arrives. When the aforementioned opening is started and ended, if the entrance-side tension of said rolling stand has been kept at or above a preset second threshold value before the start of the aforementioned opening in said rolling stand, a target value for the entrance-side plate speed for rolling by said rolling stand is calculated when the entrance-side tension of said rolling stand is at or above a first threshold value after the aforementioned opening is started, and the rolling speed of another rolling stand positioned on the immediate upstream side of said rolling stand is controlled such that the exit-side plate speed of the aforementioned other rolling stand will fall within a constant range with reference to the aforementioned target value. If the entrance-side tension of said rolling stand has not been kept at or above the second threshold value before the aforementioned opening is started at said rolling stand, the aforementioned opening is started at the point when a specific amount of time has elapsed after the entrance-side tension of said rolling stand is at or lower than the aforementioned second threshold value.
