Abstract:
A steering assistance device 1 is provided with: a steering angle sensor 30 that detects the steering angle of a vehicle V; a motor 20 that performs steering assistance for the vehicle V by adding torque to a steering shaft 12; and a control unit 70 that, if the detected steering angle is included in an angular range rθ corresponding to a steering play segment in which steering will not alter the direction of wheels of the vehicle V, increases the quantity of steering assistance by the motor 20 so that such quantity is greater than the quantity when the detected steering angle is not included in the angular range rθ.
