Abstract:
A storage system includes: a device for saving data; and a computer for managing the saving of data by the device. The computer includes a processor and a memory. The memory stores storage configuration/data protection application information for managing which area of which device stores data in a stripe that serves as a unit of data protection, and redundancy code enabling detection of errors in the data. When updating data, the processor refers to the storage configuration/data protection application information to perform online defragmentation such that data included in a stripe that includes data to be updated are arranged in sequential areas and that the free space after the data update becomes free space in which data can be sequentially arranged in units of stripes.
