A storage system and a data processing method. The system comprises a client and data nodes. The client is used for receiving a mark operation instruction for a data file, analyzing the mark operation instruction to obtain mark operation information, generating, according to the mark operation information, a data operation request corresponding to a target data node, and sending the data operation request to the target data node. The target data node is used for receiving the data operation request, and marking, according to the data operation request, a data interval to be operated associated with the data file in a local storage space. By marking unnecessary data stored in a data node, invalid data does not need to be processed again during subsequent garbage collection, thereby effectively reducing write amplification generated by the garbage collection, and reducing garbage data; moreover, when data is written into the data node subsequently, the data can be directly written into the data interval to be operated, thereby improving the writing efficiency, and reducing the storage cost.
