Abstract:

It is intended to provide novel sulfated polysaccharides, a process for producing the same, substances, in particular, antitumor agents having the same as the active ingredient, and a method of utilizing the physiological activities thereof. Sulfated polysaccharides preferably having a molecular weight of about 380,000, characterized by comprising a structural unit represented by the following formula (I): (I) wherein Galp represents a galactopyranose residue&semi and Glcp represents a glucopyranose residue&semi and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof&semi a process characterized in that the above sulfated polysaccharides are collected from the culture of a microorganism Pseudomonas sp. WAK−1&semi and substances, in particular, antitumor agents containing these polysaccharides as the active ingredient.
