Abstract:
A surface coating cutting tool (1) has a base material (2) and a coating film (3) formed on the base material (2). The coating film (3) is the outermost layer on the base material (2) and has compression stress. The compression stress varies to have intensity distribution in the thickness direction of the coating film (3). The intensity distribution is such that compression stress in the surface of the coating film continuously increases from the surface of the coating film to a first intermediate point positioned between the surface of the coating film and the bottom surface of the coating film, and has the maximum point at the intermediate point.
