Abstract:

A system for protecting working members of a transfer machine from colliding with an obstacle during the transfer of nuclear fuel comprises position sensors arranged along the periphery of the working members. The system also comprises a supporting frame having a supporting surface and the option of being fastened under the transfer machine. Furthermore, the system comprises a movable housing comprising an upper frame arranged together with a support on the supporting surface of the supporting frame, and a lower frame connected to the upper frame such that the movable housing encloses the working members of the transfer machine. End switches which produce a signal for stopping the transfer machine upon displacement of the movable housing arranged on the supporting frame are fastened to the supporting frame. The position sensors produce a signal for retarding the movement of the transfer machine when the working members thereof draw closer to an obstacle by a distance which is less than a specified distance, and are arranged along the periphery of the working members at a certain distance therefrom in the radial direction. The increased operating reliability of the system and protection of the working member are achieved owing to the use of two different channels for supplying a control signal, said channels being based on different physical principles, for reducing the speed of movement of the transfer machine and for stopping the latter, respectively.
