Abstract:
A system for utilizing waste heat in an automotive vehicle, the system having a Rankine circuit, wherein an expansion unit (42) and a pump (44) are disposed coaxially as a single unit, the pump being adapted to pump a working fluid and transferring the action of the expansion unit directly to an internal combustion engine (10) via a separable clutch (48). The flow of the working fluid to the expansion unit is limited by limiting devices (36, 38) when a fault detector (54) detects that the separable clutch has malfunctioned when instructed to connect or disconnect by a controller (60).
