Abstract:
Provided is a low cost titanium oxide production method that can maintain a high anatase crystal phase content even in high temperature environments. The titanium oxide production method according to the present invention includes a synthesis step in which an aqueous solution, in which titanium tetrachloride and an α-hydroxycarboxylic acid having three carboxy groups are dissolved, is used as a reaction solution, and said reaction solution is made to reach a reaction temperature of at least 60°C and at most the boiling point of the reaction solution in order to synthesize titanium oxide. The ratio of the amount of substance (mol) of the α-hydroxycarboxylic acid to the amount of substance (mol) of Ti in the reaction solution is 0.006-0.017, and the Ti concentration of the reaction solution is 0.07mol/L-0.70mol/L.
