Abstract:
A transition metal complex which is obtained by bringing a bipyridine compound represented by the formula (1): (1) (wherein R1, R2, and R3 each represents optionally substituted C1-10 alkyl, etc.; and R4 and R5 each represents hydrogen, etc.) into contact with a compound of a transition metal in Group 9, 10, or 11. Also provided is a process for producing a conjugated aromatic compound, characterized by reacting, in the presence of the transition metal complex, an aromatic compound (A) having one or two leaving groups bonded to the aromatic ring with either an aromatic compound (A) having the same structure as that aromatic compound (A) or an aromatic compound (B) which has one or two leaving groups bonded to the aromatic ring and is structurally different from that aromatic compound (A).
