Abstract:

Provided are a transmission device and a transmission method whereby emergency information is transmitted and a reception device and a reception method whereby emergency information is received. A broadcast station transmits an emergency caption signal that is different from a normal caption signal and indicates that the caption type for the caption signal is emergency, by using control data that is combined with the normal captions, as emergency caption control information. On a receiver side, the caption signal control data is browsed and, if both an emergency caption type and being in a target area are detected, the screen displaying the broadcast video and normal captions is scaled down in accordance with specified size information and emergency captions are displayed in the spare area.
