Abstract:
In this traveling control method for a vehicle, overtaking information on whether or not to approve the execution of an overtaking support function for overtaking a preceding vehicle by changing a lane through an autonomous traveling control is presented to a vehicle traveling on a route to a preset destination, and the overtaking support function is executed when an approval input to approve the execution of the overtaking support function is detected in response to the presentation of the overtaking information. This method involves performing a control such that: the position of the vehicle on the route is detected; whether or not a traveling direction change point required for changing a traveling direction of the vehicle exists in a route in front of the position of the vehicle is detected; and when the distance from the vehicle to the traveling direction change point is shorter than a preset presentation prohibition distance, the overtaking information is not presented.
