Abstract:
In a short axis scanning type ultrasonic probe, a flat piezoelectric element
group (2) is formed by arranging a plurality of stripe piezoelectric elements
(2a) in the long axis direction which becomes the width direction of the piezoelectric
elements (2a), and the piezoelectric element group (2) is contained in an airtight
container (3) filled with a liquid (L) functioning as an ultrasonic medium, and
the probe performs mechanical scanning to the piezoelectric element group (2)
in the short axis direction which becomes the length direction of the piezoelectric
elements (2a). Since the mechanical scanning is performed by moving the piezoelectric
element group (2) linearly in the short axis direction, the transmission/reception
wave front of ultrasonic wave touches a protrusion of a living body (e.g. breast)
easily and azimuth resolution is improved in the short axis mechanical scanning
probe.
