Abstract:
The present invention relates to ultrasonic-responsive porphyrin-liposomes capable of releasing drugs in response to ultrasound. The ultrasonic-responsive porphyrin-liposomes of the present invention contain porphyrin. When exposed to ultrasound, the porphyrin reacts with water to generate reactive oxygen species. The phospholipids constituting the lipid bilayer of the porphyrin-liposomes react with the reactive oxygen species produced by the porphyrin to invoke lipid peroxidation, which consequently leads to the collapse of the lipid bilayer structure, allowing the enclosed drugs to be released.
